Satanists in Ottawa are planning to hold a so-called "black mass" at "The Koven" heavy-metal bar, this coming Saturday, August 17th.
This URGENT petition -- directed to the police service, the Mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson, the owner of "The Koven," and to the Archbishop of Ottawa, Terrence Prendergast, SJ -- asks that they use their authority to stop this hateful, sacrilegious and offensive event from taking place.
Though the national director of the Satanic Temple in Canada says that they are not intending to use a consecrated Host (which would indicate that a theft had been committed), nevertheless, even a re-enactment of a black mass is an inherently hateful event, as it mocks Catholics and the Catholic religion.
When satanists performed a re-enactment of a black mass (i.e., without a consecrated Host) at Harvard in 2014, the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston issued the following statement:
"For the good of the Catholic faithful and all people, the church provides clear teaching concerning satanic worship,” the archdiocese said. “This activity separates people from God and the human community, it is contrary to charity and goodness, and it places participants dangerously close to destructive works of evil.”
"A black mass is an often obscene mockery by satanic cults of the Mass performed in the Catholic Church. The ritual, for example, might substitute the bare back of a woman for an altar. To complete the desecration, the black mass generally uses a consecrated host, the bread or wafer blessed at Mass that Catholics believe is the body of Christ."
So, the express intention of holding a re-enactment of a black mass is to mock and offend...and, it would also appear to the average observer, to incite hatred, in others, of the Catholic Church and Catholics.
After all, the Catholic Church is made up of Catholics.
But, whether or not this event legally qualifies as hate speech, it is a vile and repugnant assault on the religious sensitivity of Catholics, and should be looked into, and firmly opposed.
Common decency demands that this black mass be stopped, and that those in power seek to use their authority to prevent the deliberate and public denigration of the most important element of the Catholic faith.
Thank you for SIGNING and SHARING this petition. And, thank you for praying that this event be cancelled, and for reparation to Our Lord, in the Most Blessed Sacrament, for this outrage.
