Using language which could have come directly from one of LifeSite's petitions, the President told a White House press conference the following:"Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as 'essential,' but have left out churches and other houses of worship. It’s not right. So, I’m correcting this injustice and calling houses of worship essential. The people are demanding to go to church and synagogue, go to their mosque – many millions of Americans embrace worship as an essential part of life."
Unfortunately, the President's "correction" is all-too-necessary, because governors in many states have discriminated against churches and religious services by keeping them closed, even while reopening other venues where people congregate in large numbers, like restaurants, schools, offices and manufacturing facilities.
Municipal and state agencies in California, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia - to name but a few - have placed burdensome restrictions on houses of worship, over and above other places where people gather.
We applaud President Trump for concluding his remarks by saying what many people have been thinking for months: "In America, we need more prayer, not less."
This is a great victory, and we give thanks to God for it.
