The Governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam, made an appalling statement defending a proposed Virginia House of Delegates measure which would have allowed abortions up until the moment of birth, and also, astonishingly, deprived life-saving treatment to babies who survive abortion.
In a case where a baby survives an attempted abortion, Governor Northam grimly affirmed: “The infant would be delivered; the infant would be kept comfortable; the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desire, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
This is outrageous. An innocent person’s life should never be up for discussion!
No matter whether a baby has severe life-limiting conditions, he or she is still a human being, deserving of comfort and treatment owed to any human being.
This urgent petition tells the Virginia Governor, Ralph Northam, to withdraw this ghastly statement.
We cannot allow this callous statement to go unchallenged because, if there is a next time, Northam and the rest of the Democratic Party will be emboldened to continue on this same path, or worse.
Simply put, we don’t want to see Virginia outdo New York in making their abortion laws as bad as possible!
In a tweet posted by Northam after he made his statement, he wrote: "I have devoted my life to caring for children and any insinuation otherwise is shameful and disgusting."
But, in fact, Northam is actually a medical doctor who swore, “to use [his] treatment to help the sick” and “to do no harm” when he took the Hippocratic Oath.
Northam knows what happens in an abortion, and probably has also seen a baby of extreme immaturity.
He knows that premature babies need care, and not be left to die!
