X recently released a new position on pornography that would officially allow the explicit material, which is overwhelmingly related to sexual abuse and human trafficking, on their platform.

X’s policy now states, "we believe that users should be able to create, distribute, and consume material related to sexual themes as long as it is consensually produced and distributed. We believe in the autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desire, and experiences, including those related to sexuality."
Anticipating user concerns, the policy states: "We balance this freedom by restricting exposure to Adult Content for children or adult users who choose not to see it."
Canadian pro-life leader Jonathon Van Maren has said Musk’s move to a "user model" for X is apparently culminating in a shift toward becoming a hybrid of social media and Only Fans, with little regard for users who may not wish to participate in political discourse on a platform inundated by pornography.

It is known for a fact that the vast majority of porn is produced thanks to sexual abuse and human trafficking. For society, pornography’s prevalence has contributed to an increase among sex crimes, including among minors, and an increase in the divorce rate, as well as driving the human trafficking industry.
Additionally, viewing pornography is highly addictive and is linked to marital infidelity, sexual dysfunction, abusive habits, gender confusion, short term memory loss, and more.

In short, pornography has disastrous effects on our world. It is simply awful that Elon Musk and X's decision makers would even consider allowing this explicit material on the platform supposedly intended for free public discourse.
Yet they have, and we must demand that this decision be reconsidered for the good of society.
